What are the neck styles and how do they differ?

The interesting thing about Neck Styles is that you can either be fitted for it or you can change your style to work with the way you want your putter to work.

At Lajosi Putters - If we're trying to fit you for a putter we look for a few things. The first one is about helping you set up correctly to your ball. The amount of offset built into the neck affect how your eyes adjust to the presentation of the club head in orientation to the target. We usually do this by taking two putters of the same shape head and watch how you align yourself. Chances are that the method you're using to set yourself up will work better with one neck shape compared to another.

The second thing we try to watch is how you move your hands. We specifically look at where you set up and how you move your hands throughout the stroke of the putt.

After we watch your hands we look at the arc and delivery of the putter head to make sure we have the right loft on your putter.

Double Bend Shaft

Double Bend Shafts create a face balanced feel to the putter. The shaft is typically oriented to be more upright over the ball which often results in a straighter arc the putting swing. The double bend shaft can also allow for a full shaft of offset.

The Double Bend Shaft can be used on all shapes of putters we create, but we often see it on Mallets. It's especially successful with longer counter balanced set ups (37"-39" putters) or longer "sweeper" or "broomstick".

Centre Shaft

Straight Back - Straight Through to Slight Arc

Like the Double Bend Shaft above Centre Shaft set ups typically result in a face balanced configuration. The major difference between Centre Shaft and Double Bend is the straight shaft. This results in a less "over the top" of the ball at address and more inside the ball. This typically results in slight toe release.

Single Bend Shaft

Straight Back - Straight Through to Slight Arc

The Single Bend can be set up in a face balanced orientation or to have toe hang up to 30 degrees. The Single Bend gets very similar feel to the Centre Shaft putters - which have a slight toe release.

We often see this set up in mallets, mid-mallets or our Double Wide DD201 or Sensor.

Long Neck

Slight Arc

Long Plumbers Neck putters allows us to make our blade putters have more of a face balanced feel which results in a minimal arc in the stroke and slight to release.

Mid-Long Neck (Slight Arc)

Medium to Slight Arc

the Mid-Long Neck lives in a world between the long neck and the standard plumbers neck. Living here gives you the best of both worlds. You get more toe release than a long neck which typically helps players with distance control. It also allows the player to take a straighter stroke for short putts and still gives some feel for the longer ones.

Plumbers Neck

Medium Arc

The Plumbers neck is a classic, it typically results in a medium arc in the putting stroke and a little more toe release than all of the above choices.

An interesting thing we have been noticing lately is the use of a mallet design paired with a plumbers neck. Major winners like Xander Schauffele & Scotty Scheffler use this configuration.

Long Flow Neck

Medium Arc

A Long flow neck has a toe release to the plumbers neck above but the major difference is the half shaft offset.

We don't often suggest this type of neck, but players that know they want it - know they want it and request it immediately.

Flow Neck

Medium to Strong Arc

The flow neck is a fairly popular configuration with Blades and Mallets. When the neck is shortened to standard length you get a stronger toe release.

Heel Shafted

Strong Arc

Heel shafted putters used to be the golden standard for putters. Players like Jack Nicklaus set all of the records in the record book with this style of putter.

This configuration results in a strong arc and the most toe release we offer.
